Story behind the Rebirth Garments Logo:
The shape is a two dimensional representation of a fourth dimensional Dürer's Solid!
I was obsessed with tesseracts and hypercubes but wanted more complexity,
so I used this iconic shape from Renaissance painter Albrecht Dürer's etching entitled "Melancholia I".
A Dürer's Solid is technically an elongated truncated cube.
I like to imagine the "inner" solid as opaque with the "outer" solid being transparent.
the colors are just my favorite colors, but then it ends up basically being a rainbow just because I love all colors!
Before I made it my logo, it was my rebirthing symbol.
It was going to be the logo for my gallery that I was planning on opening with an ex partner, long story short, I got it tattooed on me and we broke up. This was during the time that my mental illness started to turn into a more physical manifestation of a disability (anxiety making a stomach condition worsen into a disorder), and I was having panic attacks everyday, but also could not eat due to the stomach disorder. I took off time from school and then I got involved in Heather Lynn's Templehead space rock opera and met a ton of amazing queers. I decided to have a rebirthing ceremony for myself (not a religious thing, just a witchy art ceremony) the day after Templehead ended. I decided set the intention to become a new person whose anxiety didn't prevent them from living, but instead helps make my personality unique (now I see this as switching from medical model to social model of disability in my brain). I did this goofy ceremony, and then I didn't have a panic attack for 6 months (this was extremely good for me compared to every day!). I really believe that people can change, and I really recommend having a rebirthing ceremony for yourself if you feel like you want to be a new person! Afterwards I was obsessed with the idea of Rebirth, and when it came time to choose a name for my clothing line, it was the only thing that made sense to me!
